We are pleased to inform you that the SPHERE seminar was held on June 2nd and 3rd in Rabat, Morocco at the Muhammad V University, Faculty of Law and Social Sciences under the title “End of diplomas? Micro-credentials, skills and employability”. It brought together experts from higher education to talk about the growing importance of micro-credentials in developing skills and increasing employability. Vanja Drljević, Head of the National Erasmus+ office in Montenegro, was among the other participants at the seminar.
The seminar explored how higher education institutions can integrate micro-credentials into their strategies, how to collaborate with industry and what changes are needed in the legislative and financial environment.
Special attention was paid to the context of EU partner countries from the Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, the Western Balkans and the Southern Mediterranean, which face the challenges of modernizing education and the labor market. The participants discussed European policies as well as the recommendations of the Bologna Process.
Key questions were asked about the role of micro-credentials in relation to traditional degree programs, their quality, their role in digital strategies of universities and the impact on lifelong learning.
The seminar offered insights into what role micro-credentials can have in developing flexible and responsive education systems. They also discussed the risks and limitations of micro-credentials and whether they will compete with traditional university degrees in the future.
The aim of this seminar was the analysis of European and national policies related to micro-credentials, expectations from higher education institutions as well as the assessment of the impact of micro-credentials on employability, flexible learning and curriculum design.
