National Erasmus+ Office organized panel discussion titled “See you in EU: What do we mean when we talk about EU values?”
Today’s panel gathered a diverse group of participants- from diplomacy, government, academia, civil society and academia. The participants spoke about European values and the special focus was on the role of Montenegro in the process of European integration and its contribution to the EU through its rich cultural and historical heritage.
Moderator was Vanja Drljević, Head of National Erasmus+ Office in Montenegro, the participants in today’s panel discussion were Erasmus+ users, including: H. E. Johann Sattler, EU ambassador in Montenegro; Kerim Međedović, NGO Local Demoracy Agency; prof. Saša Popović from the University of Montenegro; Predrag Zenović, the Chief negotiator of Montenegro with the EU; Amela Frljučkić from the Montenegrin Music Center.
We talked about what European values are and how do we internalize them, not only through our policies and reforms but also in our classrooms, civic life and culture. We also talked about democracy, human rights, solidarity and freedom and what they actually mean in practice and how they shape our daily lives. As Montenegro moves closer to the EU, how ready are we to live by these values?
The participants also referred to the challenges in applying EU values in the local context, the role of young people in shaping a democratic society, as well as key reforms and common goals and values that connect us.
