Summary: Montenegrin higher education system places significant importance on internationalisation, which has been underlined in the most recent national and institutional strategic documents. Collaboration between higher education institutions within the European Higher Education Area is an excellent opportunity for third country institutions to turn the current global economic and geopolitical forces in the direction of increased quality and societal influence of its higher education. One of the most important internationalisation activities in the field of teaching – the introduction of study programmes in English language, is only about to start (2023) with the first undergraduate study programme in Business and Economics at the UoM. Although the demand is constantly arriving to universities, no market research has been carried out in order to better understand it and to provide evidence-based response in the form of new / improved study programmes in English language. This project will offer the opportunity to Montenegrin higher education system – HE institutions and policy makers, to improve HE internationalisation policies and practice through collaboration with EU universities and domestic student organisations. It is expected that at the end of the project, universities in Montenegro will have the evidence-base for improvement of the quality and attractiveness of their education, will have established support schemes for capacity building of teachers and staff, student funding support as well as means to promote inter-cultural understanding. Particular attention will be given to migrant students with specific support designed for their recovery and integration. The policy makers will have improved legislation and streamlined it through digitalisation. The project should result in increased numbers of enrolled international students, increased number of EMI programmes offered and fuller integration of Montenegrin universities in the European HE area.
